Meet the Baker
Djosefin (pronounced: Joe-se-fin) Maurer-Soto grew up in Southern Germany near the Black Forest. Looking back at her upbringing, Djosefin recalls daily trips to the bakery with her mother. She fondly remembers the warm fresh bread they would get each morning. When Djosefin moved to the United States over 15 years ago, she noticed that the mass production and consumption of food did not allow for a genuine connection with the food source. Longing for familiarity amidst so much uncertainty we face particularly now, Djosefin hones in on the chemistry and precision behind the craft of sourdough bread.
Now calling Los Angeles home, Djosefin resides with her wife and business partner Marie Maurer-Soto with whom she has taken on learning about the craft of baking during the safer-at-home order. Djosefin and Marie invite you to join them on their baking journey with Black Forest Bakery LA!
